I just wanted to take sometime to let you all know how thankful I am for this worship team. You all are truly amazing, gifted people. Thanks for using your talents and gifts to help spread the gospel message.
It is important that we all are seeking after his will in our lives on a daily basis. When we come into the sanctuary with unprepared hearts, we are not only cheating ourselves out of worship, but those we are serving. Sometimes I need to remind myself of this. God calls us to worship that is full of the Spirit and truth [John 4:23]—the truth meaning true hearts that are open to being used by him.
So let’s do our best to keep in the word on a daily basis, so when we walk into practice or into the service on the weekend our hearts are ready!
DEVOS
WEEK: January 14 & 15, 2012
PASSAGE: Matthew 6:25-34 & Philippians 4:6
What is it that you are in the middle of? What are you trying to survive? What is it you’re worried about that you just can’t let go of? Are you WORRIED...whether or not you are going to be able to make the payment? WORRIED...whether or not you are going to still have a job? WORRIED...whether your marriage will last another 10 years...5 years...1 year?
So what is it? What is that “THING” you are trying with all your might to hold on to? What is it that you’re worried about that you just can’t let go of? Well, here is the cool thing...Jesus has a little something to say about worry. The truth is all of us worry about something and what we need to know today is what does Jesus say to do when we worry? Read Matthew 6:34 again.
So if we are worried God’s advice for us is to...JUST STOP DOING IT? Jesus...don’t you want to know the situation? Don’t you want to know all the details? Wait...there’s got to be more here...NOT REALLY! In fact, this isn’t the only time the BIBLE offers this advice to worriers.
Turn over and read Philippians 4:6. So Jesus says in Matthew not to worry about tomorrow and Paul says, Don’t worry about anything. God says, “I have an offer for you: Pick-up all of your concerns, worries, fears, hang ups, and junk...and dump them on me. Let go of them. Off-load them. And THEN, here’s what I will do - I’ll replace them with MY peace. God says he will take our stress & replace it with serenity. He will take our troubles and replace it with tranquility. He will take OUR WORRY and replace it with HIS PEACE.
DEVOTIONAL POINT: When worry comes, pray. Pray about the things you cannot alter, the people you cannot change, and the situations you cannot control. Then live one day at a time in God’s provisions. Is there something we can pray for you about and your worries?
