Be the Christian You Want Your Kids to be

While in Kentucky two weeks ago on our mission trip, I passed an old Baptist church each day on my way to my work site.  It had a steeple, a cross, a cemetery, and one of those classic church signs in the front yard.  This particular week the sign read, "Be the kind of Christian you want your kids to be."

Hmmm...

Be the kind of Christian you want your kids to be.  That's a novel idea.  So often, we concern ourselves with how to parent better.  We read books, ask advice, and work really hard at parenting.  We treat our kids like a project and if we could only learn better, do more, work harder, well then maybe we could fix them, or make them into what we want them to be.  Maybe then they would be more respectful, do better in school, and follow Jesus more?  I think this church sign may have a better idea.

I think we get more bang for our buck if we simply model for them who we want them to be.  Want your kids to be respectful?  Then be respectful.  Want them to love Jesus?  Then love Jesus.  Want them to read their Bible?  Read yours.  I know it's not always that simple, but actions always speak louder than words!  So this week, be the kind of Christian you want your kids to be.  I'll be praying for you.

Please keep in mind, one.eighty will be meeting Tuesday July 12 for a beach night at Prescott beach.  And HangTime needs a few kids Monday July 18 from 1-3pm to help clean up our adopted road (80th street in Cottage Grove).  We could use 5-10 students and a parent or two to help with rides.  Bring a few bucks for DQ afterwards!  Let me know if you can help.

And on July 16, 17 I'll be teaching at big church!  Please come out that weekend so I have lots of friendly faces to encourage me!

Have a great week!
