One more cast...

One More Cast…

If you’ve ever fished with me, you know I’m famous for my “one more cast” line. I don’t believe in quitting early or even at the agreed upon time. I believe in extending the fishing outing as long as possible and then calling out for the last cast.

I believe the “one more cast” line is Biblical! Seriously. There’s a story in the Gospels where the disciples have been fishing all night long to no avail. They’re cleaning their nets on shore when Jesus comes along and convinces them to get back in the boat and do “one more cast” (loose paraphrase of mine from Luke 5). They obey and it’s FISH CITY!!

What does all this “fishing talk” have to do with…anything? Jesus ended the fishing outing in Luke 5 by saying that from then on the disciples would be fishing for people.

That’s our calling too. Fish for people.

Christmas is a great time to fish. To cast a line and try to entice people into investigating who Jesus is and why he came to earth over 2,000 years ago.

We’re called to fish for people and there’s not a better time than right now. To make one more cast. To hand out one more Invite Card for Christmas at Crossroads. To send one more E-vite. To go to our Facebook page and invite all your friends and family to this upcoming event.

People are looking for somewhere to go to church on Christmas Eve. We want them to come to Crossroads if they don’t have a church home. Why? Because we’re going to share the message of Christmas through song, story, and a sermon that will be both creative and compelling.

So…Crossroads…one more cast. Be bold. Be winsome. Someone’s life is hanging in the balance.

Grateful for your prayers and partnership,

Pastor Phil
