Dedication/Baptism Info & FAQ

Do I need to be a member of Crossroads to dedicate/baptize my child?
No, you don’t, but we would ask that you be an attender and that you agree to our values and our doctrines.

Should we have godparents?
That is up to you, some parents choose to have them, and some don’t.  If you do choose to have godparents, they do not need to be your siblings and they do not need to be one male and one female.  We believe that godparents should be people that you know to be believers of Jesus – someone that as your child grows will be able to see how they live and know what it means to be a Christian.

What does dedication mean?
Dedication is a ceremony, where parents thank God for the child that He has blessed them with and make promises to Him to raise this child to know about Him.

What does baptism mean?
Baptism is a ceremony where water is sprinkled (or the individual is immersed in water) symbolizing new life.  Our denomination believes that infant baptism looks forward toward salvation and adult (or “believer’s) baptism looks back at salvation that has taken place.  Backward or forward—they both point to salvation that comes only through Jesus Christ.

What does Crossroads Church do (baptism or dedication)?
Crossroads is part of the Evangelical Covenant Denomination, which embraces both infant dedication and infant baptism.  The distinction in the infant baptism at Crossroads is that we do not believe that baptism imparts salvation (this is not their ticket to heaven) – which happens through a personal faith commitment to Jesus Christ.

What am I committing to?
In front of your friends and family, you will be committing to God and your child that you will put God at the very center of your life and that others (especially your child) will know that you are a Christian by what you say and what you do.  You are also committing to do everything in your power to point your child to a relationship with Jesus.

Does this cost any money?
No, the ceremony is free, but if you would like to make a donation to the church, you are more than welcome to do so.

What times/days are my options?
Dedications are held quarterly on Saturday afternoons at 3pm, with a maximum of ten families at a time.  Private baptisms can be scheduled before or after a worship service (Saturday at 3:30 or 5:30pm or Sunday at 8:30 or 12:30) upon availability.

How should I dress my child?
Some parents dress their child in an ornate, white gown.  Other parents dress their child in a nicer outfit.  It’s okay either way, Crossroads is a come as you are church, so your child (as well as your guests) are welcome to dress however they’d like.
