Dangerous Sin
The most dangerous sin in our lives (the one that can destroy us) is the one we have yet to confess. It’s the secret sin. The one we hide. For some reason it has the power to hold us captive.
It needs to be confessed. Exposed. Un-hidden. Confession is all about me opening the lid on my soul to both God (who alone can forgive) and someone other than God (who can pray for me and hold me accountable).
If I just confess that sin to God I’ll temporarily feel better but I will also only temporarily have victory over that sin. Again, I can’t explain why, but confession needs to include others as well. That’s probably why the Bible connects confession to God AND others.
James 5:15 is a great example: “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
Scary? Yea. James is calling us to open up our souls to each other. To expose that dark side that we really don’t want people to know about.
Andy Stanley once said that secrets (secret sins) are like splinters. The longer they’re there, the worse it gets. The best thing to do with a splinter is to yank it out quickly.
The best thing to do with hidden sin is to confess it. To God. To a trusted friend. Whatever’s hidden cannot be healed.
So…pull the splinter. Make the call. Set up the meeting.
