Freedom From...

The things I appreciate most are the things I’ve worked hard for, usually things I didn’t get help with. When I really applied myself and focused on what was important instead of getting distracted or discouraged. It might sounds like a stretch but for me one such process was marrying a foreigner. It’s not for the faint of heart. Paper work, setbacks, money…the INS (Immigration Naturalization Services) makes the IRS look like your favorite grandma.

But, if we are being honest here, there are things in each of our lives that seem easier to just leave be rather than work at them. Doctors would tell us this is the reason so many cases of cancer aren’t caught in time to be treated, people want to pretend the signs aren’t there.

Sometimes the goal (freedom from…) just doesn’t feel worth the effort. That’s the lie we all buy, isn’t it? We’re used to the symptom, we know how to live with it (albeit uncomfortably), so why go ‘fix’ it.

Because the end goal, FREEDOM from…, is WORTH it! Getting treated, can save us from death. It’s not for the faint of heart, but let’s begin this weekend with the Lord’s help, by practicing honesty.
