SOAP = Scripture Observation Application Prayer

Marcy Baumann

S: Hebrews 11:39 "All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised."

O: Hebrews 11 is considered the “Faith Hall of Fame” in the bible. It is a large list of some of the most faith tested moments throughout the long history of the Word. While reading it, I am reminded of how people who have gone before me were faced with decisions that I will never (Lord willing) be able to comprehend. Yet, get this, these were done in the Old Testament. These pioneers of Christianity didn’t know of the sacrifice that Jesus was going to make when they were doing these monumental acts of faith.

A: Here I sit, in my warm office with a full belly…having faith the size of – what?! Am I floored by the sacrifice that Jesus Christ has made that gives me the promise of eternity, or do I take it for granted? Do I go out and live a life that is bold for you, Lord? Do I put my ‘comfort’ on the line? Do I put my ‘ego’ on the line for you – let alone my life?

P: Father, I pray that I would be moved to live a life that is bold, that changes the world around me. I don’t dream of being written about in the record books for future generations, but I pray I would be worthy of a “well done, good and faithful servant,” when I meet with you. Help me recognize my opportunities. – Amen.
