Hey fellow worship artists!
I will keep this brief. Save the date of February 19, 2012 for our mid-winter worship arts appreciation lunch. This year it will be held at the Chatterbox Pub in Saint Paul, MN. This will be the first time both Eagan and Woodbury teams will be in the same place at the same time!
There will be board games, video games…and oh yeah, did I mention there will be ribs? Also there will be a lot of other great foods! So mark your calendars people! You will also received an invitation via email, so please RSVP. Thanks!
DEVOS
WEEK: January 21 & 22, 2012
PASSAGE: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Stumbling blocks…
Spiritually, they can sour and even shatter our faith. They can cause spiritual drift. Spiritual desertion. My guess is we all know people who have gone AWOL spiritually due to some stumbling block that came into their lives. Something tragic happens and they disappear… usually quietly…and inevitably someone will ask months or years later, “Hey, what ever happened to…?”
We’ve seen it far too often. Here’s reality: When a person stumbles and falls, what they need the most is what they desire the least. Think about that…What they need the most when they fall is what? Others who know them and love them and care about who will relentlessly help them back on their feet!!! But what does that person who’s fallen desire the least (when they’re down)? The help of others around them!!!!
People fall. They’re embarrassed. They’re helpless. They’re in a puddle of tears. They’re broken. So what do they do? Go into hiding. Disappear. Bolt. Run from God. Go AWOL from church. This is exactly what the enemy of our hearts wants us to do. He wants us to feel alone and weak. Alone, we’re easily deceived and disillusioned. Alone, we don’t have the strength to even care again. Left alone…we self-destruct.
The best way to prepare for what Jesus says is inevitable—the stumbling blocks of life—is to enter into community with others. Don’t settle for Facebook friends. Don’t settle for sitting in a row on the weekend. Don’t sit back until you are in a circle face-to-face doing life with others.
DEVOTIONAL POINT: How could your life be different today and tomorrow if you got into a group today? Who’s going to be there for you? This week, pray for all who come to crossroads that they would find that type of community with others. Maybe you yourself need to be seeking community in a group. Let’s pray for each other and the crossroads community that all would find the type of community God wants for us.
