Message Archive 2013

Check out our 2013 weekend messages.

Come As You Are

Grace. Even though we talk about it, it isn’t always understood. One thing that’s clear is that Jesus embodied it. He was “walking grace.” His welcome extended to everyone, regardless of their position, pedigree or performance. His invitation to the world was “Come as you are.” And when people did, they were changed. Join us as we learn more about Jesus and the grace he came to bring. And please… come as you are.

Gods At War

Idols abound in 21st century America. They are everywhere… wanting to be a substitute for the one true God… wanting to be placed before Him on our life’s org chart. Their mission is to rob us of the life that God has for us. Our mission is to defeat them. Join us as we open God’s Word and learn how to dethrone them in our lives.

Own It

The difference between where we are and where God wants us to be is own the painful decision (or decisions) we are unwilling to make. Things like spiritual depth, joy, wellness, friendships or freedom are the result of our taking responsibility for our lives. To put it simply, they come down to whether or not we are willing to … OWN IT.

70 Minutes

70 minutes. That’s the approximate time we spend together each week at church. And, here’s the question: Why do we do it? Or, more specifically: Why do you show up? Why do you invest 70 of your weekly 10,080 minutes to be here?

What's the purpose? What's the point? During this two-week series, we will discover the difference this 70 minutes can make on the other 10,010 you’ll experience during the week.

One Shot: Application is Everything

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Who you are speaks so loudly I can't hear what you're saying." And he is right. What good is hearing something good if you aren't doing anything with what you heard? The Bible makes it very clear that truth is only powerful if you do something with it. In this "One Shot" message, James Brown explains that, when it comes to our faith, application is everything.

In The Zone

“In the zone” — this phrase is used mainly to describe what happens when an athlete, musician, or author gets in a groove and delivers in a big way. They get in the place where what they are doing looks almost effortless. Being “in the zone” is a good place to be. But there is another “zone” that is even better.

In this 4-week series, the “zone” we are going to talk about is the one Jesus talked about so often. It’s the “zone” that we’re actually called to pray for and work toward.

White Flag

Have you ever run away from home? Maybe you actually got to the end of your block before turning around to go back. It all seems so silly in retrospect, but at the time you had a plan, and you were ready to show them how smart you really are!

But your plans always fell apart, didn’t they? You were so focused on what you were running from, not where you were running to, that you found yourself inevitably faced with the question, “Now what?” It was always at the end of the road that you had to raise the white flag and give up.

One Shot: Power Of The In Between

God has a great plan for your life! Have you heard that before? If you have, the truth is, most of us don’t feel all that “great" about God's grand plan. We may believe that God wants to do amazing things in this world, but we are not really sure he is going to use us to get things done.

But, what if there is something else we are not seeing? Stay tuned today as we discover that our greatest opportunities don't always seem all that amazing all the time.

Go Outside

Summer in MN is what we’ve waited for! It’s when all 5.3 million of us flock to the outdoors. Summer is the time to seize every opportunity we have to go outside and stay outside until the snow falls again! It’s also a great time to seize opportunities to invest in the lives of those we know who are far from God. To do that, we have to be willing to go outside our comfort zone.

A Modern Interpretation of an Ancient Tradition

Communion is where we remember what we all really have in common.

The Ripple Effect 2.0

In 2010 we started something. Something bold. Something impactful. We called it The Ripple Effect. As a church we stepped out of our comfort zone to invest in something WAY BIGGER than ourselves.

3 years later, thousands of drought-stricken people in Africa now have access to clean drinking water…hundreds of inner-city teens have been positively affected by food and sports programs…and over a thousand people have walked through the doors of Crossroads and begun a life-changing relationship with Jesus Christ.

We’ve made some “serious ripples!” And, now, we want to make some more!! Let the ripples continue…

Breathing Room

Breathing room. Margin. We all need it. It’s the space between vitality and exhaustion… between our loads and our limits. Without it we pay a hefty price physically, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. When margin decreases our stress level increases.

Life is much better with breathing room. Breathing room is where the “good stuff” of life happens. Join us as we re-learn how to build breathing room into our lives.

This Changes Everything

Easter changes everything. Everything? The price of gas? The Twins’ chance for a pennant? Ok, maybe not everything. But the message of Easter is that Jesus’ resurrection changes what’s past and what’s possible.

Nothing I’ve done in the past is a deal breaker with God. And nothing I’m facing today is beyond hope. Marriages can be restored. Addictions can be broken. My life can be transformed. Really?

A Beautiful Collision

What happens when humanity (that's us) comes into contact with divinity (that's Jesus)? We see the answer in the Bible: the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, the sin-stained are made clean, and the captives are set free. What we see in the Bible is a series of "beautiful collisions."

In this series, we will look at the lives of several people who collided with Jesus, as recorded in Luke's Gospel. And since those kinds of collisions still happen today, who knows? Maybe something beautiful will happen to us too.

Walk This Way

Christianity isn’t a religion. Religion is complex. Religion is all about rules and rituals. Christianity is simple. It’s all about Jesus Christ and being in a relationship with him—a relationship that begins with our willingness to accept Jesus’ invitation to, “Follow me.” Saying YES to that offer means we begin to walk in a certain way. A way unlike any other way. A way that is far more challenging yet far more rewarding than any other way.
