I didn’t know for sure what I was getting, but I had a good guess. My wish list had been submitted in time. Surely my conservative dream of having a life-like baby doll would be granted. I could just picture it, the wrinkled skin, the newborn bracelet on her wrist. I dreamed of carrying her to church, fooling people into believing she was the newest (real-life) member of our family.
The gifts were handed out and MY moment finally arrived. Imagine my surprise when my vivacious unwrapping unveiled a farm quality, hand-held, CB radio! My brother was jumping up and down as he unwrapped his too. To top it off, my cousin (whom I idolized) got a life-like baby doll. Where did the communication break down?!?! I had spelled everything correctly, I had dropped the appropriate amount of hints, I had asked without whining and I knew the doll was in my parent’s price range!
Have you been there in the past, or even lately? Perhaps your “need” is glaringly obvious. You have handled it thus far like a trooper. You’ve asked God to provide only for the need – not anything over the top…but here you sit…still in need…still in the same location…no change. At least, it doesn’t APPEAR that God is providing. He certainly isn’t providing the way you spelled it out, the way that makes the most sense.
My farm quality, hand-held, CB radio could “reach” 2 miles. I found that if I laid in bed at night and put it on the right channel & held it just right, I could pick up truckers traveling down Highway 81, not to mention have long talks with my brother on the other side of the house. We took it on long car rides and talked to the other vehicles around us, asking for directions when we were lost, etc. It was a 1st generation cell phone! I grew to LOVE my CB. In fact, when I’m asked about my favorite Christmas present my farm quality, hand-held, CB radio is one of the first things to come to mind.
Luke 2:6-7 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
God has the corner on the “unexpected gifts” market. He knows full well your need and wants to save you from your current situation. It may very well be in a manner you least expect. Just like a CB was not what I thought I needed, baby Jesus is not what the world thought they needed…but alas they were perfect. He is perfect, for you. Now. Whatever the need, dream, hurt, hope or cry. He will meet your needs, (Philippians 4:19), and work this into something good (Romans 8:28) that you may very well talk about years from now in a blog just like this.
I’ll see you & your friends at 3:15 or 5:15 on Christmas Eve!
